From Hate to Love

Writing in any form was never a joy that I had from the start, it wasn't until recently I discovered that it's something I enjoy.

In high school writing papers was something that we would have to do maybe once every couple months. When we did have to write a paper, it was never more than a couple pages. For someone who would despise writing anything more than a paragraph, this schedule made it easy for high school me to get by. I could never find the patience to sit down and focus long enough about what I needed to write. I would basically free write my papers letting the final product be it. Proof reading was a myth in my eyes.

Once I got to Heidelberg, it didn't take long for me to realize that way for writing will not get me far. Having to force myself to have patience and write three or four page papers only made me hate writing more. It wasn't until I switched majors to becoming a Communication major, that I found a new love for writing. I found there are a number of different writing form, from public relations style writing to creative writing, it showed me I can write about things I enjoy. Taking a Journalism class here at Heidelberg was when I first remember truly enjoying the things I was writing. Having a more conversational tone, instead of feeling like I'm trying to prove myself was defiantly more of the style for me. Since then I have found a lot of relief when I'm told to wrote a paper, I take the creative ideas and tones from all the different forms of communication to all papers I'm responsible for writing. I also feel more of a liberty to write about the things I like, instead of being bound to things i'm really uninterested in.

  1. What a wonderful reflection on not only the growth of your writing, but the growth of your *attitude* toward writing!
